Coello and Tapia win 'two finals in one' at the Chile Open
The film is in a constant climax for Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello. Their game captures the spectator's emotion, their level is worthy of a padel blockbuster and their brilliance makes every part of the plot hook the most clueless spectator. At the World Padel Tour Chile Open, Coello and Tapia did it again against the number ones.
The final was no ordinary match for the trophy, it had everything. The excellence of the four most in-form players on tour was overshadowed by controversy. The match had two ends due to an error by the referee that Galán and Lebrón took advantage of. Honorio García erred in calling the score which, instead of going in favour of Tapia and Coello as it should have been to bring them closer to victory, ruled that 40-30 would be the other way around. The atmosphere was infected with disbelief and astonishment. There was no turning back, the game had to go on with the result the referee ordered.
The dramatic twist in the script that Coello and Tapia encountered had its consequence. The match started again, the first end had been invalidated despite the fact that the crowd and players were already applauding the champions. The sobriety with which the players from Catamarca and Valladolid faced the second part of the story set the tone for what was to follow. Despite the tough mental setback of losing a second and definitive set, they didn't give up.
The scoreboard indicated that equality went hand in hand with justice. Despite this not being the case, the 6-4 and 6-7 were already in the past. The decisive round started with the same equality as the previous ones. With a base of authentic footwork, there were exchanges of blows completely remote-controlled. With honey on his lips and the appetite of a feline whose prey has escaped, Tapia began to devour his antagonists.
In the end, the head, as Agus indicated after being proclaimed champions, proved to be the great weapon of the sport. Coello and Tapia, with the same firmness of the previous tournaments, touched the sky again. Abu Dhabi, La Rioja and now Chile. Three wins out of three on the World Padel Tour 2023 circuit. Paraguay is just around the corner and their reserved spot on the top of the podium awaits them.
