The Abu Dhabi World Padel Tour chronicle
What a crazy start to the season! The World Padel Tour kicked off 2023 in style. Abu Dhabi witnessed the resurgence of the Ari-Paula duo, who have already laid the first stone towards the number one spot, and the potential candidacy of the talented Tapia-Coello.
The form of Paula Josemaría and Ari Sánchez continues to trend upwards. Their performances were commendable from the first round they played. They didn't drop a single set and took the final by a double 6-3, which puts them back in the place where they were accustomed to living all last year, the first place in the ranking.
The final, already a classic in the women's draw, showed once again that the level of the two hegemonic pairings is notably higher than the rest. But, this time, Ari and Paula won with the wounds of their defeat in Barcelona still healing. They got their revenge in the fast lane, without giving up any opportunities and with the rhythm of the match that they have become accustomed to during the whole week of the tournament.
On the other hand, the debut of Coello and Tapia could not have had a better ending. They brought the curtain down on their debut with the championship trophy at their fingertips. They didn't drop a single set along the way either. Their level went from strength to strength during the tournament, their confidence grew and their best game began to shine until they even defeated the number ones.
In their first match against Barahona and Mora in the last sixteen, the pair was flooded with doubts as opposed to their expectations. However, it was only a matter of time before the confident and effective tandem got into a rhythm. Neither Lebron and Galan, who despite their expected favouritism could not find their best level, could oppose the steamroller that Tapia and Coello are fortifying. The presentation letter of this dynamic duo has been outstanding, becoming from the first chapter in opponents to protagonists of the year.
The next stop on the World Padel Tour circuit is in Argentina. La Rioja will host the second ceremony where the first kings of the year will be presented.
